Milo David ("Dave") Osterhout III passed away suddenly on July 20, 2016, two months short of his 78th birthday. A life-long resident of Crete, Nebraska, Dave was the first son of David and Erma Osterhout. He graduated from Crete High School in 1956, and earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Doane College in 1960. He and Martha Miller were married on August 22, 1959. Their daughter, Lea Ellen, was born in 1960.
In the 1970s Dave started Osterhout Cattle Company in Crete, raising and selling Charolais steers. In 1981 he was appointed Safety Specialist at Farmland Foods and spent the next 25 years there as Provisions Coordinator and Inventory Control Coordinator. He retired from Farmland in 2004. Concurrently, Dave managed his own small business, H & O Small Engine Sales and Repair.
Dave was an active member of the Crete community, was a member of Rotary Club International, and served for several years on the Crete School Board. He was elected school board president in the late 1970s. Throughout his life, Dave raised many animals—dogs, horses, mules, miniature ponies and donkeys. He was a true animal lover.
Dave is survived by grandchildren Amber Ringham and her son Elijah Starks of Nashville Tennessee and Nathan Logsdon and his wife Andrea and daughter Ryan Grace, of Newburgh Indiana; brother Paul Osterhout and wife Joanna of Burnet Texas, their sons Aaron and his wife Tina and children Kaitlyn and Paul of Houston, and Peter and his wife Holly and children, Alexis and Ben of Brighton Michigan; sister, Ruth Osterhout and spouse Catherine Scott of Boise Idaho. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Erma Osterhout in 2007 and 2013, daughter, Lea Ellen Logsdon in 2006 and wife, Martha in 2010.
Dave requested that there not be a funeral service, and the family asks that memorials be directed in his memory to Doane College.
