Peter D.
Smith
January 24, 1978 – December 11, 2018
With great sadness, the family of Pete Smith confirms that he passed away December 11, 2018, from liver failure and other medical complications associated with alcoholism. Pete was born January 24, 1978, to David and Peg Smith of Crete. He originally attended school in Crete and graduated from Norris High School in 1996. A very talented artist, Pete completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design in 2004, graduating from Doane College where his parents taught. Pete resided in Lincoln and worked as a dispatcher for Crete Carrier Corporation and Reliant Transportation Inc. at different times. He was previously a member of the Crete Sertoma Club and helped with the Sokol Haunted House on occasion. He enjoyed traveling with friends and his pets were always a source a comfort. Pete had an amazing sense of humor. Family and friends will remember his quick wit and his ability to entertain at the dining table with funny voices and with drawings on the napkins, paper bags or even on other people. The tattoo ONE will always remind us of these great qualities. Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Shaylene Smith; nephew Kaidan Smith, nieces Brennan Kolbo and Regan Kolbo, all of Crete, and close cousin Maggie Benson and her family of Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents, David Smith and Margaret Brooks Smith. Honorary pall bearers include his "other brother" - Kevin Bell; close friends - Jason Edmonds, Tyson Comer, Loren Bymer, Bruce Cerny and Dave Jurena and nephew - Kaidan Smith. A Celebration of his life and his art will be held January 25th in Crete. Details are pending and will be announced on his Facebook. Pete's family asks that all people struggling with addiction, depression or anxiety seek professional help. Memorials may be designated to the Bryan Independence Center or to the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kuncl Funeral Home ~ Crete.
