Raymond Joseph Chrastil, Sr. was born on January 7, 1945 to Joseph and Ann (Nevole) Chrastil. He passed away on October 29, 2018 at his home. He was an avid fisherman, coon hunter, and greatly enjoyed his Thursday lunches with the gang. Ray was on the Crete Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department for 13 years. He liked to tell jokes and hear them in return. He was on the Knights of Columbus and worked at the Crete Mill for 45 years. On April 24, 1965, he married the love of his life, Katherine (Kathy) Stern. Ray enjoyed his grandkids and his great grandkids. Survivors include his spouse: Kathy Chrastil, daughter and son in law: Angie and Norman Johnson, sons: Daniel (Dan) and Raymond (Shorty) Jr., all of Crete. Siblings and their spouse: Rose Ann and Bud Steer of Crete, Wilma Anderson of Crete, Raphael and Julie Chrastil of Dorchester. Brothers in law: Rayfred (Butch) Stern of Crete, John Stern of Seward. Sisters in law: Jackie Henderson, Sharon Mae Cerveny, and Karen Henderson. Grandkids: JoAnne Johnson, Logan Johnson, Valerie Dingman, Mikey Johnson, Ashley Chrastil, Langdon Chrastil, Avery Chrastil, Markay Chrastil, Veronica Stoner. Great grandkids: Travis Griffis, Erica Johnson, Audrina Dingman, Edyth Grace Chrastil, and Baby Johnson on the way, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe and Ann Chrastil, brother: William Vlasak, mother in law and father in law: Ray and Dorothy Stern. A Rosary Service will be held on Wednesday, October 31st at 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church in Crete with a Funeral Mass to follow on Friday at 10:30 AM at the church. Burial of cremains in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crete. Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials are in care of the family.
