Richard Daryl Jiskra, age 85, was born on December 27, 1932 to Bennie L. and Ruth D. (Garret) Jiskra in Swanton, Nebraska and passed away on November 21, 2018 at the Wilber Care Center in Wilber, Nebraska. He attended Swanton High School and graduated with the Class of 1950 and attended the University of Nebraska graduating in 1954 with a degree in agriculture. He also went through the ROTC program. Richard served in the Army, stationed in Italy, from August 12, 1954 to August 12, 1956. He was united in marriage to Norma C. Lindsey of Union, Nebraska on June 20, 1954. He was employed with the Soil Conversation Service, serving in Beatrice, Hebron and Broken Bow areas for 13 years and then moved to Swanton in 1966 to take over the family farm. He served on the Swanton Grocery Board, Tri County School Board for 3 terms, serving as President for one term, National Resource Commission and the Natural Resource District Lower Big Blue and Saline County Commissioner. He was a member of the Swanton Fire Department, Swanton Community Club, Swanton United Methodist Church, serving as Treasurer for many years and a 4-H Leader. He is survived by his wife; Norma , son; Douglas and wife Diane Jiskra of Swanton, daughters; Rebecca and husband Jerry Pearson of Genoa and Christine and husband Bill Schwan of DeWitt, grandchildren; Peter Pearson and wife Belinda of Big Stone City, South Dakota, Andrew Pearson and wife Jocelyn of Omaha, Matt Pearson and wife Jill of Columbus, Tom Pearson of St. Paul, Minnesota, Lindsey Hofstetter and husband Brandon of Cortland, Heather Baker and husband Dillon of Syracuse, Megan Horak and husband Bryce of Western, Jake Jiskra and Shaylin of Swanton and Shane Jiskra of Swanton, great grandchildren; Alexis , Maren and Caroline Pearson all of Big Stone, South Dakota, Clara Pearson and Max Pearson of Omaha, Felicity Pearson of Columbus, Micah Hofstetter and Lennon Hofstetter of Cortland, William Baker of Syracuse and Mason Horak of Western, sister; Beverly Gish and husband Larry of Dorchester. Preceded in death by his parents, parents in law; Delbert and Faye Lindsey and brother in law; Fred Lindsey. Celebration of Life services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Swanton Methodist Church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber, Nebraska with family greeting from 5 PM to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to family's choice.
