June 15, 1937 – April 8, 2020
Richard Sehnert, 82, of Wildomar, CA, passed away peacefully on April 8th, 2020. He was born June 15th, 1937, in Dorchester NE, to Henry and Vera (Britton) Sehnert. He graduated from Dorchester School in 1955 and Milford Trade School in 1957. He was united in holy matrimony to Sherry Vyhnalek on December 1st, 1957. This union was blessed with 4 children. He worked for his dad at Sehnert's Garage until 1970, he then worked for several other body shops until he opened his own shop in 1974 until 1980 when he sold the shop and went to work for Sherwin Williams Automotive Paint. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He served as an Elder. He had the privilege of serving on the Fire Department for 13 years and 2 years as President of the Chamber of Commerce in Dorchester. He was an active member of the community he then transferred from Dorchester to Riverside, CA in 1981. In 1983 he went to work for Sikkens Car Refinishes. He retired from Sikkens Car Refinishes after 20 years of service. During this time with Sikkens Car Refinishes he had the opportunity to go to Holland and Germany to tour many body and paint shops. During this time, he had the privilege to live in Knoxville, Tn. In 1988 moved back to California. After retiring he worked for Hope Lutheran Church in Temecula, CA. as maintenance supervisor for 8 years. He was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church for 23 years. He blessed Hope's church and preschool with countless gifts from his woodworking. He then went to work for Olde Towne Smoke Shoppe in Temecula for 10 years as Assistant Manager. His interests included family and friends, and woodworking. He was adventurous and loved helping people. His adventures from a child to adult were steam engine rides, horse and sleigh rides, frog hunting, fishing, pheasant hunting, car races, walking to Crete to go to the movies and spent vacations with his family in Nebraska, Kansas City, Colorado, Wyoming and several national and state parks. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; brothers and spouses Gene and Marilyn Sehnert and Jim, 4 children and spouses; Scott Sehnert, Rochelle Carroll, Candace & Michael Herr, and Jeff and Jill Sehnert, 5 grandchildren and spouses; Mitchell and Valerie Vernon, Danielle Cornelius, Aaron and Joshua Sehnert and Isaiah Herr, 6 great-grandchildren; Brennan, Grady and Adilyn Vernon, Kadence, Bentley and Grayson Cornelius and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Vera Sehnert, sister and brother-in-law, Donna & Al Mariska and sister-in-law, Phyllis Sehnert. A Celebration of Life was held in Riverside CA at Jeff's house in his backyard on July 29th, 2020. Officiated by Pastor Sandy Bentz. Family, friends and others whose lives Richard touched are invited to graveside services at the Dorchester Cemetery on Thursday, October 8th, 2020 @ 11am. Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete is in charge of the arrangements.
