Obituary

Robert Paul Sundling was born on August 21, 1943 to Lamoire and Ethel Sundling the second oldest of 7 brothers. He passed away on February 26, 2016 at the age of 72. He became ill the first of February of this year and was diagnosed with cancer passing away just one week later. It happened suddenly and the children he raised, his brothers, daughter in law, sisters in law, grandchildren, and great grandchild made sure he was comfortable and not alone. The family stood by him as a family and he went into the arms of Jesus and Bonnie Kay, the love of his life, in peace.

He grew up in Lincoln and received his diploma attending school in Lincoln. His first job was a newspaper carrier. Bob was united in marriage to Bonnie Kay Drevo on January 12, 1963 and he continued his job as a baker at the Safeway Store in Lincoln.

Bonnie and Bob had their first child, Terri Sue on November 28, 1964. Bob lost his youngest brother, Stanley at the age of 13 years in a car accident while Bonnie was pregnant. On June 27, 1966 their son, Robert Stanley was born. Bob was then offered a job as an assistant manager at Safeway in Crete, Nebr. The family moved there and bought a new trailer home next to Bonnie's parents, Emil and Norma Drevo on an acreage. Another son, Randy Todd was born on August 20, 1974. The children all attended Star District #31, a one room country school. They also went to church at the First Congregational Church as a family.

Country life was good for the children. Bob raised many chickens, pet cows, horses. They had barns to play in and the family agreed Life Was Good!

The now larger family decided it was time to build a bigger home. Bob and Bonnie purchased a field from Bonnie's parents and began building their dream house. They had it built but they did most of the interior together. Bob was a master carpenter and he and Bonnie together built the kitchen cabinets, laid sheet rock, and did wood working, trim and the stairway. They took pride in this home.

Shortly after, Safeway went out of business and Bob's mother in law Norma lost her husband and decided to sell her business "Drevos Happy Corner" to Bob and Bonnie. They renamed the business, "Bonnie's Hideaway Lounge". Bob and Bonnie ran this business together for many years. During this time they adopted a beautiful littler girl named, Melissa Sue who was born on October 1, 1980.

In 1998 tragedy struck the family as Bonnie was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought the battle long and hard but passed away on April 2, 1999. Many events happened after her death but Bob continued to the run the business he and Bonnie had together. At the age of 65, Bob decided to retire.

In 2014 he made the decision to sell his home, although it was a very sad day for him. His children could see the hurt in his eyes the day they helped moved him to Lincoln into a condo he purchased. His children and family continued the best they could to keep him busy.

Services are Friday, 10:30 am, Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Crete.
