Sandra Lee (Skleba) Smith, "Grandma", was born to Lumir and Helen (Horak) Skleba on December 2, 1948 in Lincoln. She graduated from Wilber-Clatonia high school 1966-Salutatorian. Graduated University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood, member of Omicron Nu, Home Economics Honorary.
Married Larry Gene Smith, May 15, 1970 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber. They have three children, Shane, Heather and Amber.
Sandy was an active 4-H leader in Saline County for 15 years. She received the Alumni Award. She was also awarded the Lady of Libuse Award at Czech Days in 2004. She received two Rotary awards.
She was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Wilber American Legion Auxiliary.
Her hobbies were family genealogy, scrapbooking, photography, and husker football. She had many hobbies but none more important than her Children and Grandchildren. If there was any event related to one of them she was guaranteed to be there.
She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, parents Lumir and Helen Skleba, and step granddaughter Daysha Aksamit. Mother and Father in law Roy and Ruby Smith.
She is survived by Son, Shane and his wife Dawn of Wilber, daughter Heather and her husband Justin Cruise of Kearney, and daughter Amber and her husband Keith Roland of Lincoln. Grandchildren Kaylee Kjolhede Smith, Tristin and Wyatt Smith Wilber, Taylore, Jordyn and Cohen Cruise of Kearney and step grandchildren Dillon and Kaylee Aksamit, Dalton Aksamit and friend Ella, and step great grandson Dawson Aksamit, brother Rod and Marsha Skleba, sisters in law Carol Petty and Sharon and Ralph Petty, her Aunt Lillian Cerveny. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
