Vonley (Duke) M. Wilson Jr., 74, formerly of Princeton, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020. He was born in North Bend, Nebraska, July 16, 1945 to Vonley M. Wilson Sr. and Sarah Helen Haskell. Duke attended school in Crete. When he finished with school, Duke started his own business, Wilson Iron & Salvage. While continuing the salvage business, Duke started working for Rock Island Railroad as a track builder. September 18, 1978, Duke joined the coal crew at NPPD Sheldon Station in Hallam, Nebraska. He was employed there until July 15, 2010. As he lived in Hallam, Duke met Regina (Red) Matthews and they married July 26, 1964. Duke and Red had two children, Marty and Devin Wilson. They continued living in Hallam until 1991 when they moved to a farm outside of Princeton to continue Duke's custom farming business. Once Duke retired from NPPD he used his CDL to drive trucks for ABJ Hauling. When the Hallam tornado hit in May of 2004, Duke was asked to lead the cleanup efforts. In his free time, Duke enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with friends and family, especially his grandkids. Duke is survived by his children; Marty Wilson (Nichole Tichota-Severin) Hickman, Nebraska, Devin Wilson (Joe Powell) Hickman, Nebraska, Grandchildren; Austin Wilson (Jenna Bockoven), Chyenne Wilson, Erin Tichota, Taylen Wilson, Kellen Wilson, Peyton Wilson and Riley Powell, Sister in-Laws; Sheri (Brian) Olson, Lincoln Nebraska, Sue Wilson, Des Moines, Iowa, 4 nieces, 3 nephews and their children. Duke was preceded in death by his wife Regina; father Vonely Sr., mother Sarah; brothers David and Herb Wilson; mother and father in-law Lynn and Evelyn Matthews. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21st from 5:00 pm -8:00 pm at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, Nebraska. Memorial service will be held at the Hallam Congregational United Church of Christ in Hallam, Nebraska on Wednesday, January 22nd at 10:30 am. Memorials may be given to family for a charitable donation to be made in Duke's memory at a later date.
