Jeff Kuncl
Owner & Funeral Director
Jeff graduated from Crete High School in 1991. He attended Doane College in Crete and Kansas City Community College studying Mortuary Science. He was licensed in 1995 and currently manages the Crete and Wilber offices. Jeff is the fourth generation of the Kuncl family to continue in the funeral business.

Dennis Svoboda
Funeral Associate
Dennis is a Funeral Associate with Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete and Wilber, NE since 2007.
Dennis was born and raised in Lincoln, NE, graduating from Lincoln Southeast High School 1975, attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. Dennis received his EMT certification in 1974, State of Nebraska #2351 and received his diploma as a paramedic from Creighton University, State of Nebraska #209. Graduate of the National Fire Academy Emergency Medical Services Management program and from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management programs. Completed the Crematory Operator Certification program in 2021 with the Kansas Funeral Director Association.
Dennis began his career in Emergency Services in 1973 and was an EMT/Dispatcher with Shurtleff Ambulance, EMT/Assistant Director of York County Ambulance and Paramedic with Eastern Ambulance. Dennis was an Emergency Medical Service Specialist and Chief Inspector with the Nebraska Department of Health (now HHSS) Emergency Medical Services Program in Kearney, NE. Dennis provided support to State and Local EMS providers on EMS systems status management, development and upgrading EMS systems basic and advanced life support services, communication systems. Provided compliance inspections of all licensed ambulance and first responder services throughout Nebraska. Provided input and advice (local & State level) on proposed legislation, establishment, and implementation, of regulations and statutes on EMS and hazardous materials issues. While living in Kearney, Dennis was the weekend weather anchor for KHGI TV.
After transferring back to Lincoln Dennis was the coordinator for the State Emergency Response Commission with the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency. Provided direction to the commission to meet the Federal Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know act of hazardous materials planning, response, recovery, and legislation. Per the commission direction worked with local government agencies, volunteers, nonprofit entities, local businesses and media on reorganizing or development of Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) for dealing with hazardous materials and all hazard incidents.
Dennis retired from active Emergency Services after 38 years.
That did not last long. To quote Michael Corleone, The Godfather 3: "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in."
Dennis currently serves as the Administrative Director of Rescue 503, American EMS History, an organization to preserve and promote the history of EMS history. 2023 marks 50 years of Emergency Service.
Dennis has been married to Karen since 1981 and we have three daughters, Sarah, Megan, and Allison, sons-in-law Jared and Paul, and 4 grandchildren

Russ Sears
Funeral Associate
Russ started at Kuncl Funeral Home in the fall of 2015. He and his wife have lived in Crete for many years, so he is a familiar face to a lot of people. Russ typically helps with funeral services as well as other tasks around the funeral home.

Scott Kuncl
Office Assistant
Scott Kuncl has always been a familiar face around Kuncl Funeral Home as he has helped in many different capacities. He is primarily in charge of the accounting and payroll section but does occasionally assist with services. He is also instrumental in helping with any repairs or projects with the buildings.

Brenda has worked at the funeral home since 2007. She helps keep things looking nice since she is in charge of cleaning and upkeep of the Crete Funeral Home.
